Boys Basketball

At Prep we encourage our players to strive to do their best academically. We help our players to develop a positive self image, which instills in them a sense of pride. Through athletics, we want our players to learn self discipline, accountability and responsibility, all of which carries over to school work and to life. We also ask our players to perform to the best of their ability and not to be satisfied with mediocrity, but to fulfill their potential, on and off the court. Our basketball teams have been consistently in the State playoffs, having won five state titles and twelve conference championships.

Coaches

Rich Basirico - Boys Varsity Coach

A native of Long Island, NY, Coach Basirico graduated Magna Cum Laud from St. Leo University and earned his Masters of Education in Secondary School Administration and Supervision from the Citadel. He was appointed Athletic Director, Head Basketball Coach and Baseball Coach at May River Academy in 1979. Subsequent to the merger of May River and Sea Pines Academies, he continued as Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Hilton Head Preparatory School. In 1993 he became Head of the Middle School and the following year moved to Head of the Upper School and continues in this capacity. He and his wife Karen live in Hilton Head Plantation. They have three children: Kristi, Brooke and Kevin, all Hilton Head Prep graduates.
