Language Arts

Kindergarten provides a challenging and integrated academic environment in which each child develops confidence as a learner. Basic communication skills are taught in small group settings to give the young learner time to absorb the relationship between sounds and letters that connect to reading and writing. The curriculum focuses on a love of discovery while imparting the readiness skills necessary for future academic achievements. Open Court Reading is used as a primary source and further supplemented with leveled readers and a variety of trade books.

Mathematics & Science & Social Studies

The comprehensive math program strives to present developmentally appropriate concepts using a variety of manipulatives. Resources used are Progress in Mathematics by Sadlier-Oxford as well as Math Their Way, a child centered, manipulative math program. The children are regularly assessed one-on-one and then grouped accordingly for math instruction. Students are encouraged to explore further the roles of community workers in their own environment of Hilton Head, with scheduled visits to these workplaces during the year. In science our mission is to make science fun.
