Welcome to Hilton Head Prep Lower School where innovative learning is celebrated! We are excited to share all of the wonderful things that make our Lower School so unique. We are truly a “community of learners,” where one can find older students mentoring younger students on the design of an aquatic robot or working together to solve a “Think Tank” math challenge. Students work collaboratively and discover the rewards of teamwork through completing hands-on projects in science, technology, engineering and math. Lower School students also participate in our Lego Innovators Club, designed by one of our middle school students.
The strength of our exceptional program lies with our experienced teachers. Our dedicated faculty provides a nurturing experience for young children to learn and flourish in grades junior kindergarten through fifth. The teachers work collaboratively to deliver high quality instruction in small classes. Students participate in whole group, small, differentiated groups and individualized instruction throughout the day. Guided reading is the foundation of our language arts instruction. Character development is a daily focus and our students live by the “3 R’s” – respect for self, respect for others and respect for community. Our monthly "value assembly" gives children a sense of belonging and an opportunity to fourish in a place where they can feel happy and safe.
In addition, our children work with specialist teachers in computer, art, physical education, life skills, music, strings, Spanish and library science classes. Each classroom has a SMART Board and document camera that facilitates innovative and interactive instruction. Students have access to the computer lab and third, fourth and fifth graders may bring laptops, tablets or iPads from home for use at school.
With the Atlantic Ocean in our front yard and the Sea Pines Nature Preserve in our backyard, we have a remarkable opportunity to infuse strands of marine science and environmental science throughout our lower school program. Additionally, through our partnership with the Coastal Discovery Museum and Nancy Bunting Enrichment Experience, student learning is enhanced with monthly environmental field trips. These and other special programs complement each grade levels academic goals.
We believe communication is the key to building strong relationships with our families. Because you trust your young ones to our care, we take every opportunity to communicate with you about your child’s learning and the progress he or she is making. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you regarding our dynamic programs in Lower School, where “Prep Pride” starts early and runs deep.
