Lower School

Leadership Council

The goal of the Lower School Leadership Council is to build leadership skills and school and community spirit in grades 3, 4, and 5. Each grade has a 12 week term on the council where the students will have the opportunity to lead the afternoon meetings, sell Friday snacks, build fund-raising skills, and complete a community service project. A portion of the students' guidance class is dedicated to discussing traits needed to develop leadership skills as well as ways that they can make a difference in the world, whether that "world" is the classroom, family, their community, or even the entire planet. Each grade level will work on a service project of their choice during their term. The students also supply and sell the Friday healthy snacks which grades 3 – 5 may purchase at break time. The monies raised have been distributed for many local and national projects such as the Humane Society, Child Abuse Prevention Association, Greensburg Tornado Fund, and transportation to the SCISA music festival for our students.

Middle School Clubs & Organizations

Middle School

Honor Council

A community can live together only where the basic tenets of honor are the foundation of the community. These principles are instilled throughout the school. The purpose of the Honor Code is to create an atmosphere of trust, honesty and integrity with mutual respect among administration, faculty and students.

At the Honor Council assembly or upon entering Hilton Head Prep, every student implicitly acknowledges an understanding of and a willingness to support the honor system by symbolically signing the honor code.

The Honor Code reads: We, the members of this classroom community, pledge to uphold Hilton Head Prep’s Honor code in all aspects of our lives. We understand that the purpose of the Honor code is to create an atmosphere of trust, honesty and integrity with mutual respect among administration, faculty and students. When we value personal integrity and the integrity of the community, we act according to the principles of honorable behavior. We accept responsibility for our own actions and we refrain from stealing, lying, cheating, plagiarizing and vandalizing.

Student Council

The Middle School Student Council offers students leadership opportunities as a mechanism for community service and appropriate social behavior. Each year, an election committee reviews and revises the election procedures and then conducts an election. Currently the Hilton Head Preparatory School’s Middle School Student Council consists of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and an historian. Two grade level representatives are chosen at the beginning of each school year. At each grade level and across the Middle School, students participate in community service throughout the school year. The Middle School Student Council frequently organizes donation drives and service opportunities. Monthly social activities are also a part of the yearly program where students learn the nuances of interacting with their contemporaries in a social setting.

Student Council

The Upper School Student Council Association consists of the Executive Board (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Student Body) and two class representatives at the freshman, sophomore and senior levels. Juniors have a third representative who is primarily responsible for Prom planning. All Student Council members are self-nominated and are elected by ballot by their peers. Most Upper School student-centered activities fall under the aegis of the Student Council, including Spirit Week, Homecoming, and Field Day. We also plan all dances throughout the year.

Each year, Student Council elects to have one fund-raiser and participate in some group community service activity. In the past, we have collected goods for Deep Well and sold shamrocks for Muscular Dystrophy. In addition, Student Council is always visible as student helpers on parent night, new student orientation day, eighth grade orientation night, and at any other school event at which we might lend a helping hand or represent Prep's Upper School students in a positive way.
