Decked out in bandanas and boots, students were joined on stage by popular southern blues rock band, Cranford & Sons. One of the founding members of Cranford & Sons is fiddle player Eric Reid, a Hilton Head Prep alumnus who graduated in 2006. Reid was an orchestra student in high school whose strings teacher, Cathy Klimoff, never forgot her former pupil.  After bumping into Reid last year and hearing his band perform, Mrs. Klimoff invited the band to perform with her students. Reid and the rest of band enthusiastically agreed.  Students and parents alike were thrilled with the entire performance which also included a few musical numbers by the band.

This is not the first time a famous alumnus has agreed to perform with Hilton Head Prep students. Some years ago, Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and alumnus Duncan Sheik, known most notably for his 1996 debut single "Barely Breathing", performed a benefit concert with upper school strings students.

Our talented students, dedicated faculty and supportive parents work together for weeks on end to design costumes and sets, choreograph musical numbers, learn songs and speaking parts, (and of course, practice, practice, practice!) to put on two amazing performances which delighted friends, family and others in the community. This year's production of 101 Dalmations involved all students in grades JK-5, with fifth graders performing the speaking roles. The entire Hilton Head Prep community thanks Jim Fritz and Pam Martin for their efforts in putting on such a high-quality performance.

Michael Hermann, a 2008 graduate of Hilton Head Preparatory School, signed a free agent contract today as a quarterback with the San Diego Chargers. Michael is guaranteed to make it through Rookie Camp and will then compete for a spot on the 53 member roster.

Michael led the Dolphins to a State Championship in 2007 and holds several passing and QB records at the school. He played in the Shrine Bowl his senior year and was named All Region, All State and SCISA Player of the Year. Michael played college football at RPI where he was a three-time All-Liberty League choice, including two-time Offensive Player of the Year, and two-time All-Region choice.
