Hilton Head Preparatory School to Perform
Victor Hugo’s “Les Misérables” February 21-25
HILTON HEAD IS., SC -- Hilton Head Preparatory School will continue their 2017-2018 season with an all-school performance of Victor Hugo’s “Les Misérables”. “Les Misérables” is based on Hugo’s landmark novel about social change and political revolution in 19th century France and runs at the Hilton Head Preparatory School Main Street Theatre February 21-25, 2018.
Hilton Head Prep’s second show of the 2017-2018 season is truly an all school production. “One of the aspects I like best about our production is that it is a school wide endeavor. Students from lower, middle and upper school as well as faculty – and even some parents – will be involved,” says Prep’s director, Peggy Trecker White. With a cast of over 50 including nine faculty members and four Prep parents, it truly mirrors the family atmosphere that Prep instills on a daily basis within the community. Trecker White even double cast several of the lead roles due to the enormous – and talented – audition turn-out. “In order to see all of the versions, you will definitely need to see it more than once!,” says Trecker White.
Trecker White chose “Les Misérables” because of its popularity and its large cast to accommodate all the interest on campus in Prep’s performing arts program. The show will feature some veteran actors as well as newcomers working together to present one of the greatest musicals of all time. “Les Misérables” has won over 100 international awards and has been seen by over 65 million people worldwide. Working with the “School Edition” of this production means that Trecker White can bring this smash-hit musical to Prep students.
“Les Misérables” details the trials of France’s lower class and exemplifies the triumph of the human spirit. Its uplifting message of hope, its grad epic tale and glorious music has made it the longest running musical of all time. The sung-through pop opera overflows with melodies that are already standards including “On My Own”, “One Day More”, “Stars” and “Do You Hear The People Sing?”.
Seniors Caylin Campis, Kacy Jones and Shannon Hegarty are once again featured in lead roles and are joined by senior newcomers Keira Wojcikiewicz and Tate Wilkinson. Underclassmen in other lead roles include Keegan Crotty, Frank Milbourn, Justin Stone, Trey Middleton, Luke Herman, Rachel Stratton, Harper Hedden, Isabella Klinect, and Sammy Middleton. Dozens of lower and middle school students will complete the ensemble.
Performances are February 21-25 at the Hilton Head Preparatory School Main Street Theatre, Wednesday - Saturday at 7:30 pm, and matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. For tickets and information, visit www.hhprep.org or call 843-715-8510. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.
