Hilton Head Prep Welcomes New Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, Coach Michael Strickland
Hilton Head Preparatory School is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Michael Strickland as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Basketball team. With an impressive track record in coaching, recruiting, and player development at the collegiate, high school, and AAU levels, Coach Strickland brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court.
"We’re thrilled to welcome Coach Strickland as the new head coach of our boys basketball program at Prep," said Shon Hardy, Director of Athletics. "With years of experience coaching at Collegiate, High School, and the AAU level, Coach Strickland brings not only a deep understanding of the game, but also a unique ability to connect with student-athletes and help them grow on and off the court. His passion for development, both as players and as young men, is exactly what our program needs as we take the next step forward. We're excited to see what the future holds under his guidance and leadership."
Coach Strickland's coaching résumé includes leadership roles at renowned institutions such as IMG Academy (FL), University of Maine, James Madison University, The Citadel, and ProSkills Basketball Charleston, among others. His diverse background also features head and assistant coaching roles at Military Magnet Academy, Bishop Walsh School, Gonzaga College High School, and Benedictine College Prep.
In addition to over a decade of coaching and recruiting success, Coach Strickland offers 15+ years of public speaking experience, strong leadership in operations and logistics, and a clear commitment to the academic and personal growth of his players.
“I’m incredibly honored to take on the role of head boys basketball coach at Hilton Head Prep,” said Coach Strickland. “This program has a strong tradition, and I’m excited to build on that foundation. I look forward to mentoring these young men—on and off the court—as we strive for excellence together. Coach Strickland will begin working with the team immediately as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Hilton Head Prep community eagerly anticipates the next chapter of Dolphin basketball under his experienced and inspiring leadership.
